The Philosophy: Why “Heartset”?

If you are a chronic overthinker or someone who survives hard times by overperforming, you are seen here. While a "mindset" can only carry us so far, the heart longs for an eternal peace that logic simply can’t fathom. Beyond simply analyzing struggles, our goal is to help you move toward actually feeling safe in your body to create a more grounded heartset.

In the midst of chaos or feelings that carry shame, we work together to shift from a state of constant "doing" to a state of "being." We lean into the promise that God is at work, trusting that He is making things beautiful in His time—even when we are currently in the "messy middle" of the story.

A Journey Rooted in Grace and Truth

In the therapeutic space, we collaborate through somatic (body-based) awareness and creative expression, giving the mind a break so the heart can speak. The hard stuff won't be ignored, and positivity won't be forced; instead, we focus on a holistic healing process that restores your mind, body, spirit, and relationships.

What healing looks like in our sessions:

  • Beyond Traditional Talk Therapy: We use somatic interventions and interactive tools to reconstruct deep-seated beliefs that may be resting on rocky foundations.

  • Scientific Curiosity: Understanding your internal world becomes easier through "fun facts" about how your body is wired to process stress. When we understand our design, we can stop fighting ourselves.

  • Authentic Grace: You deserve a space to connect to biblical truths without the pressure to perform. I believe no emotions are "bad"—they are simply parts of us distorted from God’s original design, waiting to be brought back into alignment.

"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end."

— Ecclesiastes 3:11

Meet Your Counselor

My journey to counseling began with a fascination for how we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." I spent my early years immersed in the study of biological design, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Eastern Illinois University. My path was set on becoming a large-animal veterinarian—a career focused on the physical mechanics of healing.

However, God was gradually nurturing a passion within me for a different kind of restoration. I realized that while the "mechanics" of our bodies are incredible, there is an eternal heartset within us that biology alone cannot explain.

Clinical Roots & Holistic Vision

This redirection led me to earn my Master’s degree in Counseling from Johnson University in Knoxville, TN. Over the following years, I served in the trenches of the juvenile court system, residential treatment centers, university counseling, and school-based settings.

In these intensive environments, I saw a recurring theme: Mindset isn't enough. I watched people try to think their way out of trauma or logic their way out of grief, only to remain stuck because their bodies and spirits hadn't been invited into the healing.

Why I Focus on "Heartset" Today

Today, as a wife and a mother, my commitment to holistic health is more personal than ever. I’ve learned that life’s transitions—whether messy, unexpected, or even joyful—require us to be grounded in grace rather than just "high-performing" in our minds.

My mission at Heartset Counseling is to help you bridge that gap. I integrate my background in biological science with a deep foundation in Christian counseling to help you:

  • Understand your nervous system’s biological response to stress.

  • Deconstruct the mental loops of overthinking.

  • Reconnect with the spiritual peace of Ecclesiastes 3:11.

I’m here to help you stop simply surviving your story and start living from a heart that feels safe, whole, and beautifully timed.
